Effective river management and restoration requires an understanding of how the physical environment has changed, and how alterations to the physical environment impact biota. This seminar will discuss recent efforts to integrate information on historic channel and riparian vegetation changes with fish species life history information to guide river restoration efforts. Focus will be on a case study of the San Rafael River in southeastern Utah, but will also discuss research on the Rio Grande in the Big Bend region and on urban ephemeral streams in the San Antonio region.

Dr. Laub is currently an assistant professor in the environmental science and ecology department at the University of Texas San Antonio. Prior to moving to UTSA in 2017, Dr. Laub was a postdoctoral fellow at Utah State University where he conducted research on river restoration and freshwater fish ecology, focused on desert rivers. He has a PhD in stream ecology from the University of Maryland in 2011 and a BS in fisheries from the University of Montana.
