Prospective Students

Prospective Students,

Thank you for your interest in the Coastal and Marine Geospatial Lab. The lab includes researchers, graduate students, technicians and undergraduates. Most of my projects are related to the geomorphology, sediments, hydrology, climate, and biology that create the various environments of coastal zones. I encourage applications from highly motivated students with an interest on research topics closely matching those investigated by our lab.

Possible topics for graduate thesis research include the following:

  • Coastal geoenvironment mapping and change analysis
  • Beach and dune morphodynamics
  • Coastal wetland sedimentation
  • Hurricane impacts
  • Environmental remote sensing applications
  • GIS database and applications development
  • Economics and management policy pertaining to coastal resources and hazards

Graduate research may be transdisciplinary and involve other Harte Research Institute research areas such as policy and law, economics of ecosystem services, biodiversity, ecosystem science and modeling, and fisheries.

Graduate students must be independent and self-motivated. Degrees are offered at the Master of Science level, with thesis or non-thesis options, and at the Ph.D. level. Students would enter the College of Science and Technology and those seeking a Ph.D. degree would enroll in the Coastal and Marine System Science program. This program is highly interdisciplinary and is designed to serve graduate students iwth diverse backgrounds in the natural and computational sciences. Those seeking a Master of Science degree would enroll in the Environmental Sciences program, which has tracks in Coastal and Marine Systems Science and Marine Policy and Human Dimensions.

Funding opportunities for new graduate students depend on availability of teaching and research assistantships. For more information, see the College of Science and Technology website http://www.sci.tamucc.edu/ and the Graduate School website http://gradschool.tamucc.edu/.

Again, Thanks for your interst in the Coastal and Marine Geospatial Lab. Please explore our web pages thoroughly.
