Lauren Hutchison is an Associate Research Scientist in the Socio-Economics Group at Harte Research Institute. Her research focuses on linking coastal habitat functions to ecosystem services to enhance decision-making and coastal community resilience in the Gulf of Mexico. Hutchison’s recent work spans several topics including coastal blue carbon and the incorporation of ecosystem services into wetland compensatory mitigation policy and freshwater inflow decision-making. She is currently working to incorporate socio-behavioral-economic indicators into decision-making through the use of tools such as the Coastal Resilience Index and through the development of ecosystem service logic models for restoration projects. In addition to her academic work, Lauren uses her background in filmmaking to enhance science communication. She has won awards for the production of a short film titled “Sink Your Shucks” that introduces the oyster recycling program in Texas. She was also part of a team that launched the first-ever BLUE Gulf Film Competition (now known as the Harte of the Gulf Film Competition).
