Ms. Emily McCauley is the Communications Specialist at the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies.  She works closely with the Outreach and Communications Managers to manage HRI’s social media channels, create graphics for various events and projects, and help manage the HRI website.  She received her B.S. in Biology from the University of North Texas and her M.S. in Biology from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi.  For her thesis, Emily quantified populations of a gorgonian coral on the Texas coast and also gained experience in fisheries biology, ornithology, and marine botany during her time in graduate school.  She spent six years as a biologist in the Texas Coastal Bend working in both the private sector as well as for the Texas State Aquarium and the University of Texas Marine Science Institute’s Fisheries and Mariculture Laboratory.  In her personal time, she started a website where she grew increasingly interested in social media and website development.  Her position at HRI is unique in that, as a former master’s student from HRI, Emily has a special perspective to blend the science behind HRI with its public presence across social media and through the website.
