Lauren Rener is a senior at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi majoring in Environmental Science, with a concentration in policy and regulation. She joined the Harte Research Institute in the spring of 2020 as a Student Research Assistant for the Ecosystems and Modeling lab. Lauren works closely with researchers, filtering samples of benthic sediment for micro fauna. She also assists in the identification and classification of these bottom-dwelling microorganisms.
Lauren was raised in Denton, Texas and has always had a passion for animal and environmental sustainability and conservation. Her passion stems from her family– a group of avid SCUBA divers. As she grew up, furthering her knowledge of marine ecosystems became her second nature. When the time came to decide where Lauren would attend college, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi offered not only her chosen degree, but an excellent location as well. According to Lauren, “The beach is the next best thing to home!”
Lauren enjoys playing the cello and loves to travel. In her limited free time, she can be found exploring the beach with her best dog buddy, Manni, or studying at home with her sassy calico cat, Moa.
