Informing the Loop Current Campaign: Data Compilation to Improve Understanding, Simulation, and Prediction of the LCS
This project is funded through 2021
The Gulf of Mexico Loop Current System (LCS) is the dominant physical process in the Gulf of Mexico. The need to characterize the LCS dynamics and hence, provide the means to improve the effectiveness of models and forecast require access to long time series of quality oceanographic data, high resolution bathymetric data, and facility that is capable of continually updating the data collection to remain current. This project proposes the design, development, deployment and maintenance of a database management system, hereafter will be called the Gulf of Mexico Loop Current Data Hub (GLDH), to support the needs of scientist and researchers, and support to the 10-year campaign to eventually answer the questions that drive the loop current dynamics in the Gulf of Mexico.
