HRI Science Seminar Series - "Science and Literature? What STEM Gains with the Integration of Humanities Research"

This presentation offers an introduction to the humanities interdiscipline "science studies" (also known as science and technology studies) and discusses how such fields of cultural studies research can aid the solving of real-world problems typically understood as the purview of STEM specialists.

Kelly L. Bezio is Assistant Professor of English at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi where she researches and teaches science and culture, health humanities, pre-1900 American literature, and biopolitics. She has published on topics such as quarantine, imagined immunities, medical secularism, and literary epidemics in journals such as Symbiosis, Digital Defoe, Studies in Religion/Sciences Religieuses, and Literature and Medicine. She has co-edited special issues on the subject of religion, medicine, and American secularity in the latter two journals. She is currently at work on a book project titled Why Don’t Black Lives Matter? An Early American Literary Answer to a Modern Biopolitical Problem.
